What does it mean to decolonise our relationships with dogs?
It's about reimagining and rethinking the way we interact with dogs, especially in contexts that are shaped by colonial structures, histories and forces.
It requires us to relook the culture around 'ownership' and treatment of our companion dogs, reject colonial and Western ideas of dog-human interactions and embrace local, dog-centric and indigenous ways of coexisting with dogs.
As dog parents, guardians and professionals, doing this is important.
Because when we do this work, we are called to wake up from this deeply conditioned amnesia and reconnect with our loving, collaborative, gentle and kind spirit.
And that not only shifts and invites us to reimagine our relationship with our dogs but also ourselves
